Public operating method

Every stage must earn the right to continue.

Corteus does not begin with a backlog of features or a swarm of autonomous agents. We begin with a business decision, the evidence required to make it, and a stop condition.

This is the public contract for how we work. A real engagement adds private customer facts, scoped specifications, security controls, and commercial terms. It does not remove the gates below.

The decision system

Inputs become evidence. Evidence earns an output—or a stop.

Stage 01

Qualify the partnership

Input
Domain knowledge, customer access, committed capital or a credible funding path, and a named operating owner.
Evidence
Partner brief, direct conversation, reachable customer path, and explicit responsibilities.
Output
A written fit decision with missing conditions named.
Stop
Stop when the input is only an idea, distribution is hypothetical, or nobody owns the business full time.

Stage 02

Validate the problem

Input
A narrow problem, buyer hypothesis, current workaround, and the partner’s right to win.
Evidence
Primary sources, customer conversations, observed workflow, and disconfirming signals.
Output
A testable opportunity thesis and the cheapest commercial proof.
Stop
Stop when the pain is weak, the buyer is unreachable, or the claimed advantage cannot be verified.

Stage 03

Write the decision memo

Input
Validated facts, unresolved assumptions, constraints, economics, and technical risks.
Evidence
Every material statement labeled as fact, estimate, hypothesis, or open question.
Output
Build, hold, or stop—with the reason and next evidence requirement.
Stop
Stop when evidence cannot support a bounded build decision.

Stage 04

Build the smallest proof

Input
A specification, acceptance cases, security boundary, owner, budget, and rollback path.
Evidence
Tests, evals, traces, versioned decisions, and measured behavior on the target workflow.
Output
A pilot that can earn a user, design partner, paid commitment, or clear rejection.
Stop
Stop when acceptance, safety, or commercial criteria fail. Do not hide failure with more features.

Stage 05

Release and operate

Input
A validated pilot, explicit permissions, monitoring, human approvals, and incident ownership.
Evidence
Durable state, idempotent actions, audit history, alerts, and tested recovery.
Output
A production system whose consequential actions remain controlled and reviewable.
Stop
Pause on stale credentials, missing evidence, repeated failure, exceeded budget, or unsafe ambiguity.

Stage 06

Measure the next decision

Input
Confirmed product, customer, operational, and cost signals—not activity counts alone.
Evidence
Qualified conversations, pilot behavior, confirmed submissions, responses, and attributable outcomes.
Output
Scale, change, hold, or stop, followed by one next highest-value test.
Stop
Record no useful work and stop when the current evidence creates no responsible next action.

What the method proves

Discipline is visible before outcomes exist.

It does prove

How Corteus separates evidence from judgment, limits autonomous work, gates consequential actions, and decides when not to build.

It does not prove

Client outcomes, portfolio scale, or expertise in a partner’s market. Those require named, verifiable evidence and will only be published when it exists.

A real problem, owned

Bring the market truth. We will define the first decision together.
